Microscopy Image Analysis

Invented over four centuries ago, the optical microscope has seen steady improvement and increasing use in biomedical research, life sciences and clinical medicine as well as others. Today many variations of the basic microscope instrument are used with great success, allowing us to peer into spaces much too small to be seen with the unaided eye.

This special session focuses on microscopy image analysis. Researchers are encouraged to submit their original contributions on image processing and computer vision based 2D, 3D, 2D+t, 3D+t (semi-)automated data interpretation techniques for images acquired by different types of microscopes.

The scope of the special session includes, but is not limited to the following topics:

  • Bright field, phase-contrast, multi-photon, electron, fluorescence, atomic force microscopy image analysis methods,
  • Digital pathology image analysis techniques
  • Cell/tissue detection and segmentation
  • Cell tracking and lineage analysis
  • Microscopy image restoration and enhancement methods
  • Microscopy image analysis methods and applications in life sciences and clinical medicine
